CAF USA, Inc. is an established leading railcar manufacturer in the US transit industry. Our many successful US projects include LRVs for MTA Maryland, Houston Metro and MBTA; sleeper, diner & baggage LDSL coaches for Amtrak and streetcars for Kansas City, MO and City of Cincinnati.

Our award-winning URBOS 100 streetcars are the first 100% low floor streetcars in the US, and allow unrestricted movement of passengers along the entire length of the railcar.

Backed by over 100 years of railcar building experience, we manufacture all types of rail vehicles including light rail vehicles, streetcars, metros, long distance and commuter rail, and high-speed trains.

CAF USA also manufactures stainless steel carshells, like those used in Amtrak’s Long Distance Single Level (LDSL) coaches.

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is located in upstate New York. The fully modernized compound extends over 38 acres, and includes water test facilities, a climatic chamber for railcar climate tests, numerous bays, pits & assembly areas; and a test track for dynamic tests.

Manufacturing, assembly and test areas incorporate innovative technology and are optimized to ensure proficient production of reliable, modern railcars.





The LRVs for Port Authority of Allegheny County (PAAC) - Pittsburgh, Houston Metro, MBTA, and MTA Maryland, streetcars for Cincinnati and Kansas City, the coaches for Amtrak, and many other rail vehicles were built in this Elmira, NY factory.

Engineering, Testing, Quality, Safety, Purchasing and other departments are located in Elmira. The company’s corporate office is located in Washington, DC.

CAF USA has established local offices and depots in cities throughout the US to effectively and efficiently serve the needs of our customers, including our Rail Services depot in Houston, TX.

CAF USA seeks qualified DBEs and SBEs which can provide the following materials / perform the following work for railcar manufacturing: sheet metalwork, machining, welding, stamping, cabling, adhesives, decalcomania & labels, steel plates, floor panels, paint, insulation, side skirts & roof shrouds, seats, pantographs, propulsion equipment, traction motors, high speed circuit breakers, master controller, propulsion wiring, propulsion gear boxes, auxiliary converter & battery charger, electrical panels & wiring for auxiliaries, floor covering, interior lining etc.

All MWSDBE firms must meet CAF USA’s supplier standards and SBA size standards. DBEs must possess current DBE certification from a UCP-authorized agency.

DISADVANTAGED BUSINESS ENTERPRISE GOAL FOR FEDERAL FISCAL YEAR 2024


Pursuant to 49 CFR Part 26, CAF USA Inc., a TVM, hereby proposes an overall goal of 6.28% for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation in subcontracting opportunities on projects during Federal Fiscal Year 2024.

The goal and its rationale are available for public review for 30 days at the address listed below. Although less stringent, COVID-19 protocols are still being observed, so please call to make an appointment prior to coming in.

Hours of operation are Monday and through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
